Hey gang,
A friend at work was having an issue with his stove. He called the independent tech in and had him look at his stove, The auger wasn't turning. Well the tech comes and look's at it. Within a minute says he needs a new board. Say's its $279.00 plus the 3 day shipping. The next day I tell to cancel the board I have a spare from my bigE.
So tonight I head over after work to install the board for him. He was going to do it himself, But I insisted that I do it. Because something didn't sound right. So I put in the board and go to start the stove, Auger is still not turning. I didn't bring my tools like I should have. But hey a tech said it was the board. So I do some basics first. Check wires and such. Then I jump the vacuum switch. Still noda. Go for the high limit reset. Sure enough I get the tell tail click as it reset. I say "not good" and we start the stove. Stove starts right up and goes to the run mode. I don't hear the conv. fan come on. Shut down the stove and go for the conv motor. Stuck solid. Ask him when was the last time it was pulled and cleaned? I get 4 years ago. WHAT I say. The tech is also the one that has been cleaning his stove and nailing him $200 for it. But he does not pull the blowers. O boy I say and yank out the motor. Hit it with some contact cleaner and some air. Lube and turn it to get it freed up. Spinning OK now I stick it back in. Put the old board back in and let it ripe. She's a purring away as he's thanking me. It hasn't been that quit in a long time he says.
Need less to say I will be doing his cleaning this spring for $125.00. I told him I could train him and he would never need the tech again. I also told him that we need to fill him up with spare parts(the ones that are harder to find) so we don't need to call the tech for anything. We will start with a new blower cause this one is probably hurt from lack of lube.
Biggest smile I have seen in a long time! Granted there are good ones out there but there are d-bags too! For the last 5 years he thought he was being treated like a king. He found out the hard way. The tech charged him $120.00 to do basically nothing but jump the auger motor and travel to his house.
A sad story with a happy ending. I will get him to join here to get the real tech support he may need in the future. I really don't like doing house call's anymore.
