Looking for some opinions, hope someone can chime in! Moved to an older log home that came with a nice looking Dutchwest 2462. Damper control for catalytic was stuck in open position (bypass,) so took off the top and found the inner top & damper warped/broken. So was going to repair with new parts. In the process of dismantling the stove, discovered the right wall has a crack - no doubt due to being run without the inner heat shield part (completely missing.) Someone had repaired this crack by bolting on a small sheet of metal - see pics.
Wondering what folks think about this bolted on repair - is it "kosher" - ? I can still get the heat shield part, but not a new right side wall as this is a '93 with the air hole. We were stupid and didn't investigate the damper for a while, ran it one winter as is. Would have to sink about $700-$800 into this plus $150 for a new cat. And a ton of labor... Otherwise it's a new stove and a lot more $...
