I have a Country Fireplace insert that I installed myself last year. It is sitting in an old masonry fireplace opening with a massive masonry chimney that contains three flues each having a seperate flu. I am using the recommended 8 inch stainless liner all the way to the cap an top plate and blocked the chase with an aluminum plate and rock wool and the rest is filled with vermiculite all the way to the cap. The stove came with a infanitley variable
speed blower of which I do not know the cfm rating. I am extremley happy with the unit. I stuff it full and burn it hot till the wood starts to gasify and knock it back to about 1/3 draft. 12 hours later I rake the coals aside shovel out some ash and load it up again for another 12 hours. I do not like putting on a log every couple hours because I don't like how many coals end up getting buried and then having to rake and burn to get them down so I can load up for an overnight burn. The thing is my fan does not have a thermal switch to turn it of when the stove gets cool. That would be easy enough to install I think. What I would like is an automatic control for the fan to not only turn it off and on but to control the speed as well. This would be nice for when I don't have time to wait for it to heat up to turn on the blower and adjust it accordingly. The same goes for the end of a burn. I'd like it to slow down if I'm not there so it dosent pull to much heat away making the time to fire it back up again a pain. Is there such a thing out there? Would I be able to put it on my blower in place of the rehostat/switch? I would also be fine with replacing the whole blower but seeing as how it is already rehostat controlled it should just be a matter of some wiring. If anyone knows where I could get what I'm looking for I would much appreciate it.

I know of no such device... to achieve such control, you would almost need either a thermocouple/circuit board combo type device or a crazy series of snap switches (normally open and normally closed) and seperate block of setback rheostats that you pre adjust in order of the burn stage... as well as the time involded taking temp reading at different spots of the firebox shell to best know where to place said snap switches. Maybe a furnce limit switch that dragged the end of its coil across different points related to fan speed could be engineered..
