I have a large Enviro Maxx stove, 60,000 btu blowing 455 cfm and can take 3x 40Ib bags. This beast has always been noisy and the guy who does the twice yearly cleanings says they are all bad, perhaps the larger ones the worst. It is mainly the auger sound with it's grating on/off cycle. The fan itself is ok, a constant white noise that I can live with. During cleaning, the gearbox is greased and everything that might be contributing to noise nevels is inspected for any ash build up. I would be interested if anyone has a larger stove like this where the noise level is less intrusive--with the auger being the main culprit, are there any alt designs for distrubuting pellets in a less primitive way?

PM Johneh as the title of your post does not say Enviro, and he is the man to talk to

I have the original Maxx and they are louder when they run. Than most any other stove. But not to extreem. My auger depending on the brand of pellets being used is not noticeable when the wife and i call it a day n sit in the living room. But we have had pellet stoves for almost 30 years now. Its a noise that you learn to live with

I have a Max heating my shop, and yes, it is louder than the ef3 in the house, but
It does a fantastic job of keeping that under-insulated building warm. Then again,
it is a whole lot quieter than the woodworking equipment. I don't find the auger
to be any noisier than other pellet stoves I have worked on. Then again, maybe it
is just white noise to me after using it for 15 years

I'm unsure when you say the "grating" noise when the auger runs, whether you are say that the auger sounds like it is grating against something, or whether you mean the sound is just something that grates on your nerves.

When the augers on my P-series Harmans run, I usually only hear a slight hum of the motor turning - it's not loud, just a different pitch than the fans and I only hear it if I'm paying attention. I don't hear the auger itself turning the majority of the time. Occasionally, a pellet will get stuck and there will be a squealing noise, but once the pellet gets loose, it goes away.
