Do you have to use a Appliance adapter?

When I was looking at the stove and venting in the store I don't see any reason to really use one. Am I missing something?
 
It is a part of a UL listed pellet venting system. You may find that you can not attach a piece of pellet vent to the stove without one. Do the instructions for the stove and/or venting say to use it? If so, use it. There a reason you don't want to (aside from saving a few bucks)? Space or something?
