Anybody Burning Yet

First fire in the Ideal Steel Hybrid last night.
Smell wasn't too bad as we had several windows and doors open.
For a while I was able to engage the cat and see how this unit reburns.
So far so good.
Expect to have another break in burn tonight and get real on Sunday

I've burned about 5-6 nights now, whenever the forecast has it below 50 I fill it up for an overnight burn. This weekend is supposed to be in the 30s... so yeah, I'll be burning then.

Have had the occasional fire in the sunroom stove to take the chill off but not into the real burn season yet.
That being said the forecast is calling for light snow this weekend, so perhaps the time is very near.

Not yet, we typically dont burn till Nov, sometimes not till after Thanksgiving. Sometime between now and then we will start using the gas heat.

Ive twice had to turn on the gas for 30min in the morning to take the chill out, but that's it. The house gets a lot of solar gain so until the daytime temps get and stay in the low 50s with overnights in the 40s we just don't need the heat. Still don't get why you guys with super insulated modern houses need heat in mild weather... i guess the sun exposure really makes a differnece..

3 days ago it hit 76 and I had to open all the windows not to roast... had the AC on in the truck.

I've had a few morning or evening fires . . . it really has been a warm October for the most part. Since heating oil prices have been so cheap and I was given a bunch of free oil, I've been content to exercise the oil boiler a bit. However, as this week has been getting closer and closer to the weekend I have noticed the temps are becoming more and more like they should be . . . and I suspect I'll soon be back to at least doing a morning and evening fire soon.

No burns in the wood stove yet, but fired up the pellet stove in the mornings to warm things back up to 70* +. Had a morning or two of 35-40* lately.

Have not had to heat the house at all yet. May do my yearly small break in fire this weekend if it gets cool enough. Plenty of time to play with wood.

We've been burning for the last week or so, a small fire in the morning and evening to chase the chill away. It's very easy to get too warm though.

Its been such an unstable fall, low 30s one day, 70 the next. I think my first this year was during a cool snap in late August or early September. Sporadic fires ever since. The last week or so been lighting a fire almost every moring. Calling for snow tomorrow so I think the burning season is officialy here.

It's been a beautiful Autumn here in Scotland. Misty mornings, shot with soft golden sunlight, clearing into blue skies well before noon, then bright starlight nights with lots of shooting stars. The kind of evenings when a little tang of woodsmoke or peat smoke in the air feels just perfect.

We've been lighting the stove in the evenings for around the last three weeks.... although I was so eager to light up before that I admit I've had a few 'unjustifiable' fires in mid September

Temps during the day just now are around the low 50s, dropping to mid to low 40s at night.. but theyre dropping every week now. No frost yet, but there has been in some of the more remote glens... It won't be long till the grass is glittering in the morning.

First fire tonight for the wifey & kiddos. Supposedly getting down into the low 40's.
It's 78 degrees in our room with the fireplace and it's a small fire. 74 degrees the next room over, and 66 degrees in the hallway towards the bedrooms. The wifey says she's just going to live in the room with the fireplace and she's loving the Buck so far.
Life's pretty darn good...

Have had at least half a dozen night-time pine burns - I brought in small (<6" wide) rounds from a couple dead falls the week before last just so I could have an excuse to convert the screen porch from summer lounging to fall firewood holder. Also gave me an excuse to bust out my FSS half axe and warm up the shoulders making kindling.

Anyway, took the opportunity to load two big Rubbermaid bins with good dry pine kindling and loaded up the porch racks with the remaining splits. My wife is 8 months pregnant and alternates from demanding a fire from the moment she walks in the door from work and leaving the room cause she's "roasting alive."

Heres my firebox a few minutes ago. Almost all of it is larch with a few smaller pieces on top being birch. Stove top was just under 500 f when this was taken. Now at 650 f and secondaries are going good. This will die out mid morning and be left coldish until tomorrow night but the house will stay warm. Currently 3 c. Bring on the burning season

Started the first fire in the cabin this weekend. It was down to 25. I got home and the house was 60. I just flipped the boiler on to make sure the lines don't need bleeding and everything is working as it should.
