Hi, my name is Dave, and I'm a pellet-a-holic. I had a 10 cpm installed, and in just a month or so, I've saved about $400 on propane already, and it hasn't really gotten cold yet.

I live in a pellet desert, and I'm nervous about supplies. I'm not sure when the big box stores will stop selling for the year, and the prices have been all over the place. Lowes started at 4.23, then went up to 5.97, and now they're down to 3.14 per bag if you buy a ton. This led me to make a rookie mistake, and I grabbed 100 bags of Eco flame before I had the stove installed. I had read good reviews and thought they would be fine and...ok no more excuses. Newbie mistake. Anyway, they burn terribly. Almost no heat, and lots of ash. I hate them. They're not even a shoulder pellet, more of a elbow pellet or something. I still have my receipt, and will likely take most of them back to Lowes. I've had good luck with the Presto-logs so far, and I now have about 175 bags that I've purchased for about $160/ton.

My local TSC has a few Pro-pellets, a bunch of Greenways, and Lowes just got some AWF in. Right now, lowes is charging $157/ton, and I think TSC will match them. I'm going to buy a few bags of each and see how they burn before I commit to a ton or more. My storage is sorta tight, but I can fit another ton or two. If I can buy good pellets for $157/ton....I need to buy a bunch...right? What has been the historic average price of pellets? Saving $50 on a ton probably doesn't make it worth having to trip over a ton of pellets all summer, but saving $100 probably makes it worthwhile. Thoughts?

IMO, the Greenways and the AWF's are the best of the bunch you mentioned. I had good luck with both in my 10-cpm.

And yes, try a few bags before buying in bulk.

I'd say as long as their not Infernos or something of that sort, $157.00/ton is a steal! I'd find the room for a few extra tons and get them asap. I've walked by Infernos dozens of times, but for that price I'd even pick up a ton just for 'insurance' to have around.

I'm happy with the AWFs I picked up. I haven't tried pro pellets but have read more good stuff than bad. The cheapest pellets in my area are AWF at about 190/ton. $157 a ton is a decent price.

You guys consider yourselves lucky if you get a decent pellet at those prices.

Wow, a ton of decent pellets for $160. Far less than some our dealer members say they can buy them for. Are those prices unique to big box store?

If you have dry storage and the pellets haven't gotten wet, I'd recommend buying 2 tons. Take about a ton and tell them you will pick them up in a month or so.
That way they will owe you a ton of pellets and if you decide later that you want your $ back instead of the pellets they can just refund it.

Many customers pay for their pellets early and pick them up as they need them.

I will have to try this as my storage is NILL..
with this whacky weather I'm getting by mixing some of my lesser performing Nature's heat with the TSC re-badged Hamer's

Jumpin Jack Flash!! Where the #@LL in Ohio are you at? What towns are these stores in?

AWF, Pro Pellet, and Ligs (Green or Presto) are all good pellets for that price.

Now......??? Back to the store locations?????

Glad the CPM is workin out for ya.

Last year I burn AWF and could melt steel with my stove. It was like a blast furnace way too hot in my opinion. I believe it may have had something to do with my combustion fan burning out after 3 years. (yes I clean the fan 2-3 times a season).

I have been burning AWF for almost three seasons in a Whitfield Profile 30 and really have had success with them.

Pig checking in! One who's nuts over pellets. ;-)

Nice prices your paying for some good stuff. Greenway-AWF and ProPellets should do just fine. But don't get too focused on certain brands as things change from season to season. Us frugal pigs. Scope out whats cheap in the spring and try em before the season ends. Then go hog wild on whats good and affordable.

Watch out for that dex fella! If you go to one of those places and their totally out of pellets? Follow the pellet trail, Bet it leads you right to dexter's house! ;-) I wouldn't tell him nada until my stash was chock full! hehehe

LOL. I'm in Fremont, and the golden goose just laid it's last egg. Lowes somehow only got 3 tons of AWF, and someone else bought two of them. The price tag on the remainder of the third ton just jumped to $4.49 today too. So much for the deal. It's ok. I have almost 4 tons of Prestos already, not to mention 75 bags of shoulder pellets. Didn't really feel like tripping over pellets all summer either.
