My chimney is 25-30' long, and I've got a 12x12 pitch roof. The chimney is external and runs along the length of my house. My wood furnace is in my basement.
The extremely bright designer of said chimney decided that the best location of the clean out would be in my basement tucked right behind my LP furnace, and the door is a good 6x6" or so. I have to go through my concrete basement wall, then into the chimney wall to get to soot that has fallen.
So to clean this thing in winter, I need a 24 foot extension ladder, a 900 foot pole with brush, and climbing harness to make sure I don't suicide by falling off the stupid 12x12 pitch roof. Did I mention I'm also afraid of heights?
Is it possible to add an external chimney clean out without compromising the integrity of the chimney? It has a clay liner if that matters. It'd be so nice to clean this thing from the bottom up on the fly. I know there's those pulley and chain systems on a crank, but they're $300-400 I think.
