does the fan speed not vary much on the old mt vernon between high and Quad? It seemed last year that there was another "step" up from high to quad, just like the lower settings. After i cleaned the stove i do not notice the difference between High and quad in blower speed. The flame does get larger though.
 
I was just working on one of those an couple hours ago. I never let it run long enough for the convection blower to come on. I did notice though between HI and QUAD I could hear the combustion blower get slower.
