A new place in Norwich Ct Shur Fire Energy just recently advertised Hamer's for $296.99 per ton. Very steep if you ask me. They also list Inferno's (couldn't give these away) for 239.99 per ton. I also checked their delivery charge which was also very steep at 75.00 for 3 tons or less, you want more you pay more! Waiting for BT!

Got my pellets at CJs http://www.cjspellets.com/, prices of the pellets are good, but for 4 tons where I live I paid $114.42 for delivery. The price for Hamers there is $249/ton.

WOW is right $6.00 /bag picked up or $6.44 del. good luck I'd be looking someplace else. It has been hinted /suggested by various folks on this forum that prices on the top shelf pellets are going up.

How many bags per ton are you guys getting? Is a ton one pallet load? Looking around here it's like 70 bags per pallet @ 40lbs per bag = 2800lbs The least expensive I found was $4.49 per bag...at 70 bags that equals $314.00 before tax (40.82) for a total of $354.82.

Will, yep you are right. Although I try and support local business these prices are outrageaous! I have my list made out of what I will buy and from where. Don't make sense where a place 20 miles from my house is lets say for 5 tons including delivery is $600.00 more than a place 60 miles away! it's a no brainer! they might rake in a first time pellet buyer but...my opinion they are 60.00 per ton over and delivery! people are looking for the best deal possible these days....

Michhump, there are no tax charge on pellets! I am talking a ton, a pallet with 50, 40 pound bags. However you can get some for a higher price 1.3 tons or 70 bags I believe!

I hear you Tony if you can get the same product and save $600.00 no contest. Sometimes the new guys over price or under price themselves right out of business, local or not I don't know to many folks who can afford to blow an extra $ 600.00

I hang out for BT's prices. Looking at CTpellet($249) and Primo pellet($239). I'd say BT should be somewhere close to there prices.

Ditto. Once I see BT's offer, ill finish in a hurry. At this point, i have to add in fuel cost to where i get my pellets. It can easily add 10-20 per to to power the HD.

What have I burned in Big E!

Well this week I went to local TSC and picked up 10 bags of Instant Heat to hold me over until the warm weather gets here. Although these are not Hamer's they are not the worse I've ever burned. They are longer in size for sure, minimal fines and ash isn't bad at all but not as hot as the Hamer's. I believe they are listed at 8400 BTU. Not a bad pellet for this time of year or early fall/winter, guess price would be the deciding factor. Anotherwords for 5.00 a ton more I'd by Hamer's!

Cubex - good results, like the Hamer's

O'Malley - I got clinkers with these but only after 3 days of burning compared to no clinkers with the Hamers buring for a week before cleaning

Energex - Bought 3 tons of these 3 years ago from TSC, had bad luck with clinkers. Would have to try them again before buying by the ton but these are not on my list of favorites

Way back (2004 time frame) when pellet choices were at a minimum and hard to get I burned Walmart brand, can't remember what the name (Natures Choice maybe) was but all considering these got me through

Somerset - not bad but to me pricey considering you can get a higher BTU pellet for about the same price maybe a few bucks more per ton

Okies - good results with these, burned about a half ton last year to try and liked these.

Barefoot - These worked well for me too. Bought a ton 2 years ago but these are not as hot as Cubex or Hamer's and I believe these are pricey!

Lignetics - Not bad, these worked ok for me, just think Hamer's and Cubex spoiled me!

New England Wood Pellet - same thought as the Lignetics, a little more ashy

Also have tried what local HD or Lowes had on hand, always something different. These pellets probably range in the 8200-8300 BTU range. If it's all thats available I'd probably buy these but not unless I have to!

My list of favorites are as follows, in no certain order:

Hamer's
Cubex
Oakies
Barefoot

Pellets I'd like to try in the future:

Curran - one listed as 8900 BTU, the other 8600 BTU
Independence
Vermont Softwood
Spruce Pointe

So either they are acknowledging peak oil, or tell us all to go pound sand and drown in our debt!

What does that mean? Get you pellets now. Won't be cheaper later. Am working on my stash for 2012-13. February 2011 $200/ton prices are history. Anything in the $250 range is good. Fully expect to see them over $300/ton and today's prices will look like the good old days.

To tell you you truth I just buy whats available. Right now TSC has Michigan Wood pelllets at $3.59 per bag or $169 per ton. I bought a bunch from Menards for about the same price, I think penneywise brand. Home Depot had stove chow for $3.39 a bag but they are out for the season. Don't recall the BTU.

Hot Ones for $225/ton up here in NEPA. Planning on 4 tons also. Do you happen to know if there is sales tax on the delivery charge of wood pellets here in PA?
