Vermont Wood Pellets in a P68

Hi,
Looking for spring sales. I have had luck dealing with South Shore Wood Pellets. This is my 3rd year with the P68 I and have always burned Barefoot Pellets. (tried NEWP early on ). I see that South Shore has Vermont Wood Pellets. Have any Harman P68 owners tried The Vermont Pellets? How do they compare to Barefoot?

while both pellets are good, I dont beleive the Vermont's would approach the quality of the Barefoots.......

Burned both this year. Similar heat, similar amounts of ash. Vermonts ash seems to be lighter and gets blown out of burnpot instead of accumulating along sides.

Only complaint with Vermonts is they bridged in the hopper and stove shut down with over half hopper load left several times. I have never had this happen with any other brand. I think it is due to the fact that the vermont pellets are not shiny on sides for some reason so they do not slide over each other as well as other brands. This was my experience with one ton purchased last fall with unknown manufacture date, something may have changed since.

i picked up 6 bags of the vermonts at SSWP.i burned 3 and gave 3 to a buddy to try.super strong smell from these pellets.dont know if they got damp or what but i could smell them on the 2nd floor of the house but the bags were in the basement.as for the burn,i got good heat ,maybe a bit hotter than the green team i was burning but the inside of my stove was black after the 3 bags and my buddy reported the same after burning in his quad.the ash however was on the light side and did clear out of the pot.i will grab a couple more of these to try for a different store just to compare the smell and burn

I have burned a ton of Barefoot this year, but only a couple bags of the Vermont pellets. I found that the Vermonts had a strong smell too; not unpleasant, but you could smell it. There were a lot of fines in the bags, but apparently most people don't have that problem. If you have been happy with the Barefoot, why risk switching? At the most, I would split the order, assuming they offer Barefoot this year. I personally preferred the Barefoot.

i believe the smell is from the logs. They only use pine logs for pellets. I burned 10 bags abd noticed a pine smell. My stove is located in the back of my garage. I have a maxim 175 outdoor pellet boiler

I got a smoking deal on the Okies, but I like the Vermont's much better. Less ash, less carbon build up, less dust when pouring, still great heat and the smell of the pellets themselves are intoxicating.

I was getting the VTs for 5.30/bag, then the went up to 5.39/bg and then jumped to $5.89 bag.

I'm hoping to get 3 Tons of VT for next year if I can find a good deal on them.

I was getting the VTs for 5.30/bag, then the went up to 5.39/bg and then jumped to $5.89 bag.

I'm hoping to get 3 Tons of VT for next year if I can find a good deal on them.

The Vermont's just went up to $245/ton picked up from the plant. I emailed them about a week ago and asked about pre buy deals, as of yet they have no deals in the works but said they would email me back when/if that changed.

I guess it would depend on how good the price is in the vt's and it would have to be a REALLY good deal to get mento switch from a pellet that I knew worked well in my stove.

I bought ten bags about a month ago. 5.50 a bag. Rick the plant suprvisor took me on a tour from start to finish. I had good luck with my pellets. He told me to get a hold of them end of march first part of april. They should know pricing by then. Hoping to buy a whole truck load

I need to try these Barefoots next season.
Been reading good things about them.

For the Vermonts, I find them to burn quicker than the Firesides, Agway's or Okies I've used.
I mean by hours...

I love 'em.

I burned 1 ton of Okies, 1-1/2 ton of Vermont's and 1/2 ton of Premier's this year.

My impressions....

The Premier are a decent mid-grade pellet with lots of ash and just OK heat.
They burn well at low feed rates and work great for a shoulder season pellet.
I paid $219 / ton for them at Tractor Supply in Taunton, MA and they were worth it.

Okanagan's,
The Okies I had gave me some trouble this year. I was not able to burn them on a low feed rate at all.
But with a faster feed rate they burned great.
They had low ash and high heat (when burning hot)
I will buy more next year.
I paid $265 / ton for them from June at J&S Trucking in Berkley, MA

Vermont's
When I bought my Okies in Oct '10 I picked up a few bags from June at J&S Trucking in Berkley, MA
I liked them enough that week later I picked up a full ton of them.
They have a nice pine smell but not overpowering.
They do seem to hang on the hopper walls a bit more than other brands.
I bounced through the heating season alternating between Okies and Vermont's
I find the Vermont's burn great at all levels of feed. They may have a bit more ash than the Okies but burn just as hot.
When it came time to pick up 1 more ton I decided on the Vermont''s.
I paid $250 / ton from June at J&S Trucking in Berkley, MA

Between the Okies and Vermonts It would be a toss up in my stove. Both throw great heat.
And each had their own unique issues.
I'd buy either next year.

Have burned 3.5 tons of Vermont's this year in my Harmen Accentra.
They are a great softwood pellet....would say they are better than ANY hardwood or mix pellet out there.
Thay have way less fines than the ton of Okies I burnt last year....but burn with just about the same ash and temp.
The Okies I have a feeling were not handled properly...while the Vermonts didn't have a chance to get beaten in transport.

The one complaint I have found FOR ME with the VT's is that theymseem to burn faster than other pellets. They are still a good pellet, I also had really good luck with Northern Pellets this year, they put out heat equal to the VT's but a bag seemed to last longer in the hopper of my P61A.
