Our wood stove chimney is 46 years old, it is 6" Metalbestos and about 24' tall. We have cleaned it yearly with a steel brush and have had one chimney fire. I haven't noticed anything that makes me think there are problems. What should I look for? Is it just time to replace it because of age?

If the chimney pipe is that old, I'd definitely replace it, especially if it's being depended on 24/7 for heating.

If you replace your chimney, you might want to use a plastic brush rather than steel. Steel scratches the stainless. Plastic will keep it nice and shiny inside.
