Osburn Inserts

I'm still on my quest for a fireplace insert for my small fireplace. I came across this Osburn model 1600 insert that may fit. I'm wondering if those of you who have had experience with Osburn stoves/inserts in general and the 1600 model insert in particular can share your experience and opinions.

I have had no problems with mine in 3 years. It is connected to a full liner. If you can, make sure you extend the stove onto the hearth as far as possible. It makes a big difference. I am happy with it, burns well and clean. I'm not a big fan of the ceramic mats on top of the upper firebricks but it helps with the secondary burn and helps cut down on creosote build up.

I'm early anticipating the start of my second season with a 2200. I have a full liner as well.

The only problems I have encountered have nothing to do with the insert, but with the company I chose to install it.

I like the design, it puts out a lot of heat and the glass stays clean. The blower moves a lot of air and is relatively quiet. I really enjoy the fire view the bay windows provide.

I'm not sure how prices in your area are, but when I made my purchase there was little difference between the 1600 and the 2200. If this is the case in your area, and you have the space for it, you might consider the larger 2200. It would really depend on what your needs are. At the time of purchase in my market the Osburn inserts were the best compromise of quality, ease of use and price. Being that I'm in Canada, I was also pleased that the stoves are manufactured by my countryfolk in Quebec ( this may have also influenced the price point as it did not cross the border and was manufactured a few hours by truck from where I purchased it ).
