Heavy, Tank, great stove! Older, but So What as Joe Walsh would say.. Been messing with the "air/fuel" mixture, been finding things out, which fear kept me from before! But been realizing that this stove is not superior to my old Dell Point Europa! It's advantage was, and Ash auger! It could run 24/7 without clean-out . Ash is a big problem in any fire system. I guess. Any advice on the Englander 25-PDVP for mods on making it at least a 28 hour burner? I bought a new wear plate with intentions of drilling some holes!

Plus, as a back ground, the Dell point was run with two cyclical timers and two 12 volt speed controls, cause the board went bad and was 795.00, but still with no safety, preformed like a dream.

Was thinking of drilling a hole through the side to put an ash auger in it somehow?

Thanks mates!

I'm going to take a stab at this as I'm pretty familiar with Englanders, but not this one! Doing a quick Google search, it looks like the wear plate is flat then angles up at the end similar to the PDV and PDVC. I'd start with the burn plate mods which should be near the bottom of this thread: https://www.hearth.com/talk/threads/englander-25-pvcd-need-help-please.180451/
Also, look under your burn plate for two holes that come up the side from underneath. Plug those so that more air comes up through for a better burn. I can get about a day on my PDV depending on how hard I'm running it and it burns much better which is more heat.

What pellets are you burning? The amount of ash generated varies greatly with the quality of the pellets. Yes the higher quality pellets do cost more. But you get considerably more heat and less ash.

Hello Eric and Rick,

I will take your advice on the two holes under the wear plate, going to plug them, with steel wool? Or say, fire cement? (kind of want something i can dig out at a later date if needed!) that will push more air around the front of the fire instead of the rear? (bought an extra wear plate from pellet stoves and more for around 39 bucks i think, in case i want to open some holes up more) I'm hooked from the back with three inch, about a foot and then increased to the 6 inch chimney stack, which gives me a lot of "woof" when burning hotter and or higher flame.

What i have done is, increase the inlet air with the blower control (my stove only has two pots, one for "heat range" and 'blower speed" ) It's one thing i enjoy, simplicity!

I burn Hammer's Hot Ones, little more expensive, but they do burn hot! Buy them at our local Agway. They produce little ash for what ash i do get compared to the true value pellets. And they don't soot up the window as much.

Thanks for the info Gents!

One more Giggle! Was thinking if grinding up the leftover munchie and chip wastes into a slurry and popping into the pellet hopper! like the pretzels and rice crisps that no one will eat?

I used steel wool to plug the holes for the very reason you stated, if it didn't work I could pull them out. Some people use Hillman plugs (electrical item) to do the same.

I just finished my "fall" ton of my shoulder season pellet (Maine's choice, never again), decent heat but WAY to much ash and really long pellets. Once I get into my "winter" stash (leftover Matras then Vermonts) the PDV burns much cleaner with more heat. I still get dirty glass but as I said in that other thread I'd rather have heat than be able to see the fire.

Smirnoff and pellet stoves mix! Wanna know why? Fear of "puff" the magic dragon! That flame in the house thing i always talk about! Sh!t even the old blue flame scares me! Smirnoff helps melet the old worrier go and test things i'd never tested before (also listening to some old mr Pink Floyd) 25 PDVP. Aint like the new machines, it's got a big old scoop bucket! Newer ones are smarter, shallow scoop bucket. They get rid of the ash quick! I'm learning.. Thinking of a better pellet stove design, but you know, Time, Money and Energy are the biggest factors! But here we go again, the world doesn't want freer energy yet! No profit in that! Miss my old woodmaster! Guess i'm going to take another step into the un-know! Let the old chimney soak up what is use to! fear of the un-known is a b!tch!
