My name is Jud Millar and I am new to stoveland. My wife and I heat with oil and have a fireplace that is useless for heat. We'd like to got the fireplace insert rounte and are considering the ashley 4600 as it seems good and moderately priced. Its this a decent option or is this unitl a peice of crap?

Thanks for any thoughts - Jud

Ashley is a brand made and sold by US Stove company. They tend to supply hardware stores, tractor supply and some big box stores......in other words, this is not a really well known brand among the "stove elite" these days.

But that does not mean it is not a good stove or a decent value. In fact, I saw a price of about $1100 on their direct site - which is a heck of a price for any wood insert with panel, glass and fan, etc.

It comes down to a couple things.....like how big the firebox is - how much area you want to heat, etc.

As far as the unit itself, check to make certain it has a nice air jacket around all sides and the top - so the heat can be exchanged by the fan out into the room.

I'm also considering a version of this stove. I say version, since it seems to be sold by several different companies. Here's the list that I've found so far.

Drolet Escape 1400-I

Flame XTD 1.5-I

Here is the link to the manual for the Ashley 4600. On the cover, it lists the stove as the Ashley 4600, but throughout the manual, it's listed as the Drolet Escape 1400-I. The manual for the other versions of the stove are on the product pages above.

The cheapest that I've found this stove is at Northern Tool for $969.99 plus $99.99 for the faceplate kit. The reviews on Northern are positive.
