i was perusing the blaze king site and saw that they had an article about a tax credit.
(broken link removed to http://www.blazeking.com/EN/tax.php)

essentially, if you install one of their qualified units in 2015, you get a $300 tax credit for your 2015 taxes.

i checked some other sites to see what other info was out there. seems there are plenty of stoves and fireplaces that would seemingly meet this tax credit.

is my understanding of the tax credit accurate? we installed a northstar (EPA certified, washington state certified) in november 2015. i looked around and it seemed that heat n glow (manufacturer of the northstar) was on the list of qualified manufacturers: http://www.hpba.org/hpba-member-locator

I'll be including the new stove on my 2015 tax return for the $300 credit.

Thanks for this. I was looking into it earlier this week and couldn't find the 2015 info.

This is just part of an old tax credit thing, right? I believe I used that up about four years ago when I had new windows and doors installed. It's not separate from that, is it?

i don't know the code. i think congress extended it through 2016, so it might have just been an extension of the previous credits.

My understanding is that they extended the credit to get $300 for a stove over 75% efficient. But if you have done other energy tax credits on your home the gov will only give a combined lifetime total of $500. That's how this was explained to me.

That's my understanding as well.
I was also told that a certificate of efficiency is required from your stove manufacturer. Some already have the certificates on their sites to download, others you have to request them.
