Is that the going rate? I'm thinking that I may just "Man Up" and climb the roof and do it myself for a fraction of the cost.

Sounds a little high, depending on your setup. Of course your mileage may vary.

its a pretty straight setup. It comes out from the basement at almost at ground level then it shoots up about 30 feet or so on the North side of the house. Yard is pretty leveled if they wanted to go up on a ladder or they can access the roof from the back deck.

Whats the chimney attached to inside? Wood stove, oil furnace? Does it include taking apart and cleaning the inside pipe?

Woodstove. I dont think they will have to take much apart other than taking the cap off to get the brush in there. I saw those brushes and rods at Lowes for like 40 bucks, i may just do it myself.

30 fricken feet in the air! I'm in the business and I'd still pay someone to do it.

Our company would charge about the same price, providing it was within 20 miles or so of our shop and we would also take apart and clean out the pipe going from the chimney to the stove. $185 to be exact.

Yea, thats my thing Franks, I dont want to fall from up there and land on my face. I was just wondering if that was the going rate.

No one wants to fall and hurt themselves. I hammer this home to my crew every day. Safety first.

We charge $199 for Level I ("Basic") sweeps and this includes cleaning the connector and the interior of the firebox (baffle, firebox, etc. Does not include stove service. Stove service is available if needed for additional cost). We charge $299 for Level II sweeps. These are more difficult and usually require more specialized equipment. We give discounts for multiple jobs at the same time.

I think your local rate of $180 is fair. But I can't see your situation. It may not be enough. Hard to tell from here.

Thanks Seaken. Appreciate your help. Stay Safe.

Had those guys out today and they did a great job. The guy told my wife it was a good idea we cleaned it sooner than later as it was greatly blocked. Guys were very proffesional and did a great job. I was expecting to see dust all over but they left the place very clean.

I always cleaned my own chimney and after seeing what it costs
you make me a happy man.Maybe i can send the wife a bill.

Glad you got that thing cleaned Kat. I hope you were able to observe how they did it and maybe have your own ideas now. You are correct that it really does not cost much for the equipment except for a ladder that is tall enough. Also, that high, I'd want to have that ladder tied to something on both sides before I went up. It gets sort of scary after 20' or so. But chimneys are usually pretty easy to clean if you don't let them get too clogged.

yea, the equip is pretty basic, but the cosy of vehicle, gas, insurance (which is sky high when you are dealing with the liabilities a sweep does) and labor, taxes, etc.... its no different than having to get a plumber, or electrician (for whom 180 would be a bargain deal, BTW)
