12 volt T-Stat for Quadrafire Classic Bay 1200?

Hello

Well I sold the Pelpro and Purchased a Quadrafire CB1200 so the Lux DMH110 for 24v or millivolt systems that I got for the Pelpro does not look like it will work for the Quad. Instructions say 12v AC ??

So does anyone know what T-Stat can be used for the Quad besides the OEM one?
Does it need a high Swing Setting like around 2 Deg F??

I would like an all manual T-Stat since the stove will be in the shed and I can turn the T-Stat on with a switch in the house.

1. A 12 volt AC thermostat is required to operate this pellet
appliance. You may use the included wall mount thermostat
or purchase an optional programmable thermostat
or remote control. It is equipped with an adjustable
heat anticipator. The current rating is .05 amps. The
anticipator needs to be adjusted to the lowest setting
available

Pics will come if I get this thing working!
The low limit switch is stuck closed so the convection fan keeps running.
Also the stove was in damp storage with pellets in the hopper that disolved and made one tough AUGER JAM!!
Anyone know a good way to get them out so I can remove the Auger??

Don, My Lux worked on my quad. I think my Lux TX500 states 12-24 or millivolt systems.

Yeah.... I think that stat will work Don...

As for the Auger Jam... The Auger is Hollow. Its a Spring. Take a Coat Hanger and jam it through the center. That and a Shop Vac should do it.

Also thanks Dexter on the coat hanger. I broke up the chunk at the bottom of the hopper. Now I just started with the coat hanger getting up into the Auger so I will continue with it. I also took off the Auger Motor cover but I cannot move the auger manually yet. I will keep chipping away with the coat hanger.

I got the banana jacks on the shed interior wall all hooked up to the T-Stat next to the raised hearth and ready to go. See pic
It will be a while before I will be doing that.

That Quad is Gonna run you out of that Shed.... Im not taking away from Pel Pro. I never owned one.

But I know what the Quad is capable of. Heats my home (2,200 sq) on its lowest setting. Unless its about 10° outside.

The thermostat circuit in my CB1200i is 24 volts. My manual says 12 volts. The service manual says 24 volts.

Any experts out there want to weigh in on the difference between thermostats? Far as I can tell it is just a set of contacts on a bi-metal spring that rotates and causes the mercury to run to the end of a glass tube and complete the circuit. Why would it matter what the voltage is, if you are going to use the stove without a stat you would just jumper across it anyway. The only time I could see the voltage making a difference is if you were hooking up a digital stat but most of those are made to work on a range of voltages. I'm not sure some of the older stoves even put out enough if any voltage to power a digital stat so you might need one that runs on batteries to operate the digital part.

I completely agree with you...

The stat that comes with the stove, is an old school Spring style stat. Nothing fancy.

Like you said, its a contact. Open, or closed.

If its a Digital stat, it needs its own power supply. Other than that, I dont think it matters much.

Spot on. I have a CB1200 and have replaced the plastic thermostat switch with a RiteTemp timer. If you connect it like a oil burner with zone valves it will simply open/close the contacts. These timers have hysteresis built in so that the stove does not cycle on/off all the time. My Harman has a thermocouple which I connect in the same way except I put the the swich contacts into one of the thermocouple wires. I leave the stove on Max and let the timer open/close the circuit. Good luck, it's not a bad stove.

Regarding the auger. You can lift the top cover and remove the box over the auger motor. With the motor removed the auger can be pulled straight out. When i bought mine it had a piece of plastic pellet bag lodged in there!

Hello

Well I got the Lux DMH110 Manual Digital T-Stat running with the Quadrafire Classic Bay CB1200 FS in the shed!
In the T-Stat, I changed the swing jumper setting from "Normal" (.25 Deg F Swing) to "wide" which is 0.75 Deg F Swing!!

So before I go out there, I flick the toggle switch inside the house up, to connect the T-Stat to the pellet stove.

The T-Stat is set for 70 Deg F and when the shed comes up to 69 Deg F and the Red Call for heat goes off and the Auger stops. The Temp keeps rising to 71 Deg F before it starts falling down. It falls to 67 Deg F and the call for heat Red Light comes back on and the Auger starts up. The temp keeps falling to 66 and then starts climbing again. Working really good!!

Then when done working in the shed, after I go back into the house I flip the toggle switch to shut the stove down!

Yes, I have no idea why Quad says 12 volt thermostat when there is no such thing as far as I could find. In their specs, though, they say 24 so I think someone just screwed up in the owner's manual and no one bothered to change it.

Folks the thermostat is just switching on or off. The stove is designed for a low voltage thermostat as opposed to a line or high voltage thermostat. You will be fine with the Lux. It's got it's own power supply and will work for a 12 or 24v circuit. I ran the same stove as an insert on the same thermostat as Jtakeman for 5 years. Worked great. IIRC the swing was only 1 degree, but the thermostat was not in the same room. It was around the corner in the hallway.

You are right on, when I set the Lux for 24volts the Quad fired up fine!! That is confusing!!
I have seen T-Stats specs say they work for 12-24vac so a 24v T-stat will work for a 12v system!

Any case the bottom line is a 24v T-Stat will work on the Quads!!

I agree, but the Lux T-Stat instructions are to say the least a little CONFUSING!

So when I wired it to the Quad using the 24v Diagram with the jumper it worked!
