100+ cords of wood in Bay City MI State Auction

Anyone up for some work?

Description: Approximately 350 face cords need to be cut and split and removed within 30 days of purchase. This includes approximately 40 saw logs ranging from 10 - 20 feet in length. Saw logs and firewood are hardwoods of mixed variety including Pin Oak, Red Oak, Maple, Poplar and Cottonwood.

looks like the minimum bid starts at $ 1000.00. 100 cords at 1000 dollars is $ 10 a cord right? Not a bad price, but you'd really need some serious equipment to get all of it in 30 days. There are more pictures at the bottom. I couldn't begin to know what 100 cords looks like, but the pictures don't look like all that much to me.

If you had a group of maybe 10 or so guys to go in with you, you could probably knock this out in 30 days or less. Maybe a few weekends and be done with it.

I'm game. Someone pitch this to TLC and I'll be there with my saw and mauls on two different weekends. I haven't had my 15 minutes of fame yet. If you do it right, then TLC will buy the whole shebang and we can all get free firewood. (I'll sell mine locally because I ain't driving it all the way home)

TLC should find 10 families that are in need. get 10 woodstoves. 100 cords of wood would give a 3yr supply of wood at 3 cords per year. Sponsers will have experts come and do safe installs and talk about codes and clearances, etc.. We all donate time and deliver wood and then teach the families how to use the stove safely. Stihl will donate saws, Fiskars will donate splitting axes as well as teach the families to use the equipment. Ton's of product placement. I'd watch that show. We'll all be famous for a year, then we'll fade away as quickly as we came.

The requirement for cut and split on site seems strange.

It could easily be done, but the rub is in the size of the blocking to be done and the weather. A wood processor is required, if you want to make money. Moving firewood restrictions are written all over this one though for me..

3 guys, 50 hours and a place to dump the rounds within 5 miles. And tell them to pound it on the splittin it on site requirement.

EDIT. Scratch that, 200 hours. Divided instead of multiplying...

Why not split it on site, stack it up for measuring, and if it's less than stated, try and get a percentage of your money back?

It takes me 2 hours to go get a little better than a cord and dump next to my splitter if it is already bucked and reasonably close to home. Then, an hour and a half to two to split it. It also takes a lot less time to load a trailer with rounds than splits. There are only so many hours in a month.

Yeah, bay city is in the zone. It's not going outside that zone. I'd be interested other than the fact that it's about 100 years worth of heat for me and it's 120 miles away.

I wonder if they'd let you split it and sell it right there on the site. You could do that while taking home what you want to use. It would still take a bunch of guys working hard, but if you could sell some cords and let other people haul them off, that would be part of the work done and make yours even cheaper.

The cutting and splitting on site part is a problem. Otherwise, how much could it cost to hire a log loader truck for a day or two to have a lifetime supply of firewood?
