    Aerogel blanket under hearth pad

    Can I use an aerogel blanket under my hearth pad to increase R value? Are there any downsides to using aerogel? We need a hearth pad R value of .8. We are thinking of using a .2 inch aerogel blanket (R value 1.46) under about .5 inch slab of slate (R value .05).
