    Do the hearth and firebox need to be perfectly level to install a wood insert?

    I'm planning on installing a flush wood insert into our 100 year-old fireplace. The entire fireplace (including firebox and hearth) have settled forward at a pitch of about 3/8 per foot. Can I still install the insert as is, or will it need to be leveled? Are there codes that prevent...
