Need a wood stove for deer camp

I am just surprised that he doesn't want to sell you a stove also. He is okay with the chimney project only? Sent from my SM-G950U using Tapatalk

Need a wood stove for deer camp

In your location I am thinking you have premium hardwoods available. If you don't need a ton of heat, burn softer woods like poplar or pine. If your place is up to temperature and you load the stove full oak, yeah its going to get hot for a while. Sent from my SM-G950U using Tapatalk

Need a wood stove for deer camp

For the description you provided of the cabin my opinion would be that the outside intake air option...referred to as OAK would not be required. If you want some light reading before bed time read the few hundred OAK threads on this site. Sent from my SM-G950U using Tapatalk

Need a wood stove for deer camp

Buying wood is always an option, here are the issues: -99.9% chance the wood will not be seasoned -its likely the wood may be cut too long for the stove -the wood may need to be split smaller to fit the stove -many wood sellers will be sold out after the 1st cold days of winter -mixed...

Need a wood stove for deer camp

My opinion would be to get a stove at least 2.0-2.5 cu feet. You want at least a 10 hour burn if out hunting all day. No one wants to come back to a cold cabin after hunting in the woods all day. Put the double wall class A chimney in yourself, I have done 2 with the help of this site, its easy...

Thoughts on Stihl MS 462 CM

Yeah I was surprised to see the 462 at Northern Tool. Price was pretty high for a saw of that size. The one I picked up had the regular Sthil solid 25in bar mounted. Saw was really nose heavy. I had that same bar mounted on my 441 and it too was nose heavy. I prefer the orginal edition 372 non...

Supplement Heat for Cabin when Not Present to Feed the Wood Stove

I have a wood stove installed currently and am sticking with that. Pretty much ruled out the heat pump at this time. May have a Williams wall furnace installed and also replace the wall console heater. Heat pump would have been cool and fun for me (I like technology, electronics, drives, ect)...

Supplement Heat for Cabin when Not Present to Feed the Wood Stove

Yes no matter what the options I choose we will be burning some natural gas in some way. Curious the reviews on heat pumps if anyone has them... Sent from my SM-G950U using Tapatalk

Supplement Heat for Cabin when Not Present to Feed the Wood Stove

I found a calculator online and it looks like the cost to heat with natural gas would be around $400 per year while the heat pump is around $600. Kind of surprised the heat pump isn't better but again that AC would be awesome.

Supplement Heat for Cabin when Not Present to Feed the Wood Stove

Hi Everyone, Looking at options to heat my cabin when I am not there. HVAC contractor has provided a few options. I typically use the cabin 3 seasons - summer, fall and spring. Winterization is around December when I drain all the pipes and let it freeze. At least this is what I did last year...

Getting a Fair Deal on a New Flue Install w/New Stove

The city doesn't allow a DIY install? How would they know? To me its more of a concern with your insurance provider. Is your insurance okay with the DIY install? What do they require? Sent from my SM-G950U using Tapatalk

    Large Red Oak

I did not cover any of the wood yet but it is all off the ground. After splitting we will top cover. The red oak seems to last much longer than soft maple here which rots pretty fast no matter what you do with it. I like to season the maple 12-18 months and the oak 24+ months. The maple wood has...

    Large Red Oak

Ha ha, we live about an hour south of Green Bay and our cabin is about one hour north of Green Bay. My wife is getting sick of winters so not sure how much longer we will be up here but either way I am keeping the cabin! Nothing better than the Wisconsin north woods. Sent from my SM-G950U using...

    Large Red Oak

Yeah it worked out well. I got done bucking the firewood this morning. Now just have to deal with a huge brush pile. The tree had some significant rot so it was time. Sent from my SM-G950U using Tapatalk

    Large Red Oak

Finishing up on this tree that was hanging over my cabin. 390XP came in extremely handy with 28in bar. The tree guy I hired did a great job, no damage to the property.

    Husqvarna XCut

Hand filling takes practice. Use a bench vise to hold the saw bar. Take your time. 2 or 3 pushes on each cutter is about all it takes. Sharpen every tank of fuel if you can. For bad chains that have hit something I prefer the Oregon bench grinder. Sent from my SM-G950U using Tapatalk

    Husqvarna XCut

Husqvarna sells an updated file designed for this chain. I will file mine and it will be sharper then new out of the box, guaranteed. I don't believe a word that dealer is telling you. Designed for "occasional use" that must be why this chain is standard on the new 550XP Mark II and the 572XP...

    Husqvarna XCut

The XCut appears to be semi chisel which I had thought would slow it down some. Not the case, this is the fastest chain that I have ever used. I was cutting maple with it yesterday and was very impressed. The cutter top plate does seem to be narrow which might have something to do with the...

Getting ready to install this 1400 in my up north man cave. I stripped and repainted the stove. It came with about a 5.5 foot peice of double wall pipe that telescopes.
