(back) Subject: ICC VS. DURA TECH From: "Grant Darrow" <[email protected]> Date: Tue, 24 Apr 2001 10:44:18 -0400 I'm curious about the absolute lack of comment on all these forums over = the raging debate between Dura Vent and ICC over prefab chimney design and its short comings (reported design deficiencies). These guys are now testing each others chimney systems and pointing out = the UL 103HT failure points! If your not installing prefabs to their EXACT SPECIFICATIONS you had = better take notice, these companies will bury you in court even if their product fails! Anyone ever see a structural failure of / or a structural fire from a = failed ICC or Dura Tech chimney system? Willieweep

(back) Subject: spring cleaning From: <[email protected]> Date: Tue, 24 Apr 2001 14:08:25 -0400 Hey there ! It Is a fine spring morning out there, with the mist heavy in the air and the ice fading away from the lakes. Everything smells fresh and I have already forgotten what it is like to have to scrape the windows on my car before heading out on my rounds (well, almost). Everyone I meet seems to = be in a good mood as they, slowly, walk towards their offices. As I thought about how I really didn't want to go inside, I took pause to reflect on what got me into this business, and more importantly why I am still here. I can go down the formal list, steady income, I know the business well and am comfortable with it etc, etc. However there has always had to be something extra to keep me going. An occasional event that lets me pause = and go, yeah, this is what makes it all fun. We'll here's one of mine: Sitting on a rooftop on a fine morning like this. I am an avid mountaineer; I hike , I rock-climb (not nearly enough these days) , I ice climb (ditto) I just love to get out there and to get to the top of a well fought climb. I have chosen lines of work that have allowed that pleasure as well; search and rescue teams, AMC huts , hell I even worked on radio towers . But I have a family now and it is nice to get = home at night too. Still, I love a fine view, especially one that is all mine. Not a scenic overlook over run with tourists but a special view that I had to work to get to. I always take pause for a moment as I reach the chimney top, look around, take a breath of fresh air and take in the scenery. Then, it is off to the races, on with my day, away I go. But, like a bright smile in the morning, the view stays with me all day and I remember why I still do this stuff, cranky customers and all. Please excuse an aging hippy stove guy for throwing in a quiet moment . = It is spring , a time of renewal. The trade show is past and it is time to = get going for the new year. Come on, think of one moment that makes you take pause and say to yourself "hell this ain't so rough, I don't know many = other jobs that give you ..............." and then get going , off to the races, on with the show, etc. etc......... Happy spring sweeping! Tomas Kucera
