It seems that the Manf (various) could "Bake" these stoves, prior to crating, (and after they cooled off, of course), and alleviate the poor purchaser from this travesty. If all new cars smelled like they were on fire, upon delivery, and were noxious, I am sure that the auto manf. would quickly deal with the problem. This stove "Outgassing" seems attributable and solvable at the factory, and should not be part of a "Modern" Industry. In fact, why not hang one of those Auto Pine Trees on them, just to show that the MANF. DOES CARE, about a solvable problem. Gary R. Moore, HI. (back) Subject: Re: Outgassing From: <[email protected]> Date: Thu, 15 Mar 2001 13:01:06 -0500 I don't understand what all the stink is about outgassing. (no pun = intended) In all our 25 years of selling wood and gas stoves only one ore two people have complained about the odor. This is because we always mention it as we load = or deliver their stove. We call it "new smell" and advise them to run it a = few hours to cure the paint, oils and other finishes. Wood stove people accept it the same way they realize bark and ash mess = are part of the energy independance package. Vent free gas people are a little more fussy, but we offer to swap their uncured logs for our burning display cured logs and it usually works our = fine. If hearth products were totally idiot proof we'd all be out of a job. = Thank god they require a little explaination and support. Kerry Duggan The Wood Stove and Fireplace Center Gainesville, Fl
