I need to inform you that there will be no services at this time. I welcome you to two celebrations of Daniel's life. The first will be held from 4:00-7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, March 21st, at Tracy Hall on Main Street, Norwich, VT. A second celebration will be held from 12:00-5:00 p.m. on Saturday, July 7th, in Redwood Grove Picnic Area at Samuel P. Taylor Park, Marin County, CA. In lieu of flowers and if you wish to honor Dan's memory, please consider a gift to an organization or person important to you. Thank you for your kind thoughts and love, Annie
(back) Subject: re: Dan Melcon passing From: <Brett> Date: Thu, 22 Feb 2001 12:32:12 -0500 Craig, I would like to further embellish your heartfelt thoughts on Dan Melcon's passing. I share many of the same experiences that you had. Dan has been an "impact" person in my professional life and I have lost a good friend. I first met Dan in December of 1996. I was 30 years old and had just been promoted to National Sales Manager @ HearthStone. I was panicked. HearthStone's National Sales Meeting was coming up in four weeks and I needed some coaching and direction. The reps were coming in, the new gas products were not ready, and I was the young buck with all the question marks following me. As fate would have it, Dan was that soothing angel = who contacted me letting me know that he had just moved back east and was looking for consulting work in the industry. The timing was perfect and I hired him on as a special projects (read: "Bret, why in the hell would you want to do that!") consultant. He was that older "fraternity brother" = that always played the devil's advocate role with myself, and I am sure others. Dan had a great way of smoothing the bumps, asking all the right = questions, and ALWAYS, ALWAYS, ALWAYS was positive. Coupled with a great sense of humor, it was easy to be Dan's friend. If I could define Dan with one phrase, it would be his love for = information. Dan was "plugged in" to everything, and it was his relationships with the dealers that made him so valuable with the manufacturers. Based on his = wide variety of experiences (rep, importer, retailer, Omni labs, Hearth and = Home, Earth Stove) Dan brought to the table all aspects of the business. He is irreplaceable. I stopped in to see Dan at Christmas time and in early January. The man never lost his sense of humor, and his love for information. I could go on endlessly with fun moments and fun stories, but I will let others add to this list. The hearth industry has lost an unbelievable asset and I, personally, have lost a mentor and a friend. Bret Watson President - J=F8tul North America
