(back) Subject: An important energy crisis survey for everyone! From: <[email protected]> Date: Wed, 24 Jan 2001 16:07:29 -0500   The energy crisis is providing the first opportunity in more than 20 years to get the good news about our stoves and fireplaces into the general public mass media. We've had great success getting our message in shelter magazines, (thank you Richard Wright!!!) but the mass media is a gigantic void.   The mass media is now full of all kinds of info on solar and wind power, how to conserve energy, build your house out of straw bales, the wicked and evil energy companies and all kinds of drivel. It's looking for anything and everything to hype about the energy crisis but is mostly silent about our products and totally silent about our message.   This good news message about hearth products that the public has never heard, read or seen on TV is as follows:   1. As natural gas and propane prices rapidly rise, it becomes more economical than ever for everyone to use our ductless, zone heating stoves and fireplaces.   2. Heating with certified clean burning wood stoves is both extremely economical and very environmentally friendly because our wood stoves don=92t cause global warming and they don=92t smoke. Wood stoves also = allow consumers to be completely independent from the utilities and OPEC. Additionally, our wood stoves are the perfect solution for electrical blackouts.   3. Pellet stoves are a very cost effective way to heat, along with being convenient and very environmentally friendly.   4. Our biomass (wood and pellet) stoves allow consumers to economically heat their homes without increasing the demand for oil, natural gas, electricity, nuclear or salmon killing hydroelectric power. They also provide a very significant benefit by reducing peak loads on utilities.   The question for everyone is:   WHAT SHOULD OUR TRADE ASSOCIATION=92S ROLE BE?   Choice A: Hay, who cares. Life is good. The HPA has just reorganized and has it's own stuff to do. They can't do much anyway. Whatever business that accidentally comes my way from the energy crisis is all I need.   Choice B: Our HPA should reinvent its organizational structure to put mass media public relations as its highest priority (after EXPO). It should assign an existing staff person as the HPA Public Relations Officer to be the media spokesperson, whether dealing with national or affiliate level media opportunities. HPA should contract with mass media consultants so they can constantly be in the media's face, talking with editorial staffs, filling the many media channels with interesting articles, PSAs, videos and homeowner interviews about the many advantages of our products. Our manufacturers should be yelling, screaming and demanding that our trade association take immediate advantage of this incredible national media opportunity. The HPA should even consider a membership "surcharge" if necessary to kick start this mass media effort, not to buy ad space, but to leverage our message into the hundreds of energy crisis article opportunities.   What choice do you think is best and why?   Roger Sanders Bend, OR
(back) Subject: Grizzly Pellet Stoves From: "Judy L. Hennessey" <[email protected]> Date: Wed, 24 Jan 2001 16:07:57 -0500   Can anyone provide any information on the Grizzly pellet stove, i.e. who made them, are they still in business, phone number, address or is there a stove manual out there somewhere for this stove? Any information would be helpful.   Thanks, Bruce Hennessey Upper Valley Pellet Stoves West Lebanon, NH
(back) Subject: Good Firestarters.... From: "Craig Issod" <[email protected]> Date: Wed, 24 Jan 2001 23:15:39 -0500   Buying tip for dealers/distributors/wood stove users....   I just received a sample of some new fire starters that work better than any that I've tried before. Just one of the starters started a great fire WITH NO KINDLING.   They are called SuperStarters and are bigger than most I've used. They claim it burns for 20 minutes, and in my test it did seem to do that.   You can email the company at [email protected] or visit their site at:   http://www.superstarter.com   (Note, this is not a paid advertisement...just that I'm lazy and love good fire starters and maybe you are too!)       -- ------------------------------------------------------ Craig Issod HearthNet at http://www.hearth.com [email protected] Everything your Hearth Desires ------------------------------------------------------   ------------------------------------------------------
