Of course, this forum is not the place for a long dialog on the global warming issue, but let's not forget our hearth industry roots. Many of us got into this business because of energy and enviromental issues. Although the emphasis has shifted, we still find enjoyment in helping people with their heating and energy needs. We could debate the global warming thing forever, but no one (of any sanity) can deny that our (people of the earth) lust for energy and material good is having a profound impact on the planets air, water and other resources.   Anyway, found this on the science news today:   Earth hotter in 1997 'than ever before,' scientists say     Copyright =A9 1997 Nando.net Copyright =A9 1997 Agence France-Presse   LONDON (November 27, 1997 09:29 a.m. EST http://www.nando.net) - This year is set to be the world's hottest on record, British weather scientists said Thursday.   Global warming was said to be partly to blame for the increase in the 1997 average temperature, which is expected to be the highest since records began in 1860.   A report from the British Metereological Office and the University of East Anglia in Norwich in the east of England predicted the earth's surface air temperature will be about 0.77 Fahrenheit warmer in 1997 than the long-term average, measured over the years 1961 to 1990.   Up to now, 1995 was the warmest year on record, when the temperature was 0.68 Fahrenheit higher than average.   Deputy Executive Director of Greenpeace Chris Rose said: "This news should galvanize action at next week's climate summit" in Kyoto, Japan.   "World leaders need to accept that there is a limit to the amount of pollution the atmosphere can take -- the sky does indeed have a limit," he said.   A spokesman from the Metereological Office said: "This increase in average temperature is a very good indicator that global warming is with us and we should be very concerned about it.   ------------------------------------------------------ Craig Issod HearthNet at http://www.hearth.com [email protected] Everything your Hearth Desires ------------------------------------------------------ Buddha says "avoid error" ------------------------------------------------------ =20
