(back) Subject: Instructions for the masses... From: Craig Issod <[email protected]> Date: Mon, 17 Nov 1997 22:53:22 -0400   There has been very little interesting talk on this list lately. Some have complained that it's went downhill since I relinquished control of this list to you, our dear members. I wholeheartedly agree, and surely had hoped that ALL of you had a little more to say. As it is, less than 10% of you have EVER posted anything on this forum. I would hope you all have something more to share with me or each other. The revolution IS here, but if you are just a spectator it might pass you by..and it won't hear what you have to say!   Now, a few points about the list....   Yes, you can unsubscribe easily without asking me, just by clicking the unsubscribe header in the header of this message...or by simply sending email to the address: [email protected] with the words: unsubscribe hearthlist IN THE SUBJECT OF THE MESSAGE   Or, you can simply email to me at my personal email address, [email protected].   You cannot subscribe to the list in any way other than a personal email to me, despite the "subscribe" link in the header. This is because every member of this list must be qualified previous to subscribing.   Oh, and please, when you are responding to another post, don't quote the ENTIRE MESSAGE OR DIGEST just to add one or two lines of your own dialog. Simply cut out the relevant sentence or paragraph and respond to that...or do something like:   ----begin example____ On 11/5/97, Craig made a comment reflecting "The ethics (or lack of) modern business"   My opinion on that subject is that blah, blah, blah, and we should all play golf all day long, and the heck with modern business. We'd all be healthy and attractive if we spent our days in such pursuits. After all, as they said in the movie "Wall Street", how many Yachts can one water ski behind? ----end example.....   Get it? Instead of quoting the entire last emails, a short summary lets people know what you are talking about.   Also, to post to the list, simply send a message to [email protected] - You must be writing from the EXACT same email address that you originally subscribed from. If it is different, the list will not accept your post. Please inform me if you have any problems posting.   OK, so go to it. I'm glad to provide the server computer and forum to host this list, but the comments and discussion are supposed to come from all of you.       ------------------------------------------------------ Craig Issod HearthNet at http://www.hearth.com [email protected] Everything your Hearth Desires ------------------------------------------------------ Buddha says "avoid error" ------------------------------------------------------

(back) Subject: Vent-Free Odors From: Craig Issod <[email protected]> Date: Mon, 17 Nov 1997 23:06:08 -0400   Many of the air-quality problems with Vent-Free can be traced to other factors within the customers homes. We noticed that when we stained the front doors of our shop, the place smelled like kerosene for weeks afterwards whenever the Vent-Free was burning. I recently received the following email:   I bought the (name deleted), ventless stove. I am really not satisfied with it. When burning it makes my eyes burn. I was wondering if I can convert this stove to a vent stove. If I can, please tell me how to do it.   My answer to the gentleman was:   Cannot be converted..however, you may want to have your installation checked out...I've had other stoves that had small gas leaks, etc when the burner was turned on...this gas mixes with the regular output and can give headaches, etc   Also, if you have painted or stained something in your home recently, this may affect it.   His response:   I have painted and varnished. I just bought the home and repainted and varnished everywhere.     So, another problem partially solved. I say partially, because he won't be returning his stove to the dealer...but he still might have to wait a long while before his stove gives him satisfaction.   Any of the more technical minded folks on this forum have any input on this type of situation? Namely, if these odors are burning eyes, giving headaches, etc. - how bad is this for a body (physically)?   Are there any studies being done on the use of vent-frees in real world situations such as this?         ------------------------------------------------------ Craig Issod HearthNet at http://www.hearth.com [email protected] Everything your Hearth Desires ------------------------------------------------------ Buddha says "avoid error" ------------------------------------------------------
