(back) Subject: VC2050 From: "gail english" <[email protected]> Date: Mon, 20 Nov 2000 18:19:01 -0500   Hi, Does anyone have a Vermont Castings wood fireplace: VC2050? If so, there is a customer who wants one: <mailto:[email protected]>[email protected] or <mailto:[email protected]>[email protected]. Thanks.
(back) Subject: unsafe mantel From: <[email protected]> Date: Mon, 20 Nov 2000 18:37:46 -0500   Here's a new one....we installed a Fireplace Xtrordinaire in a customers = home during construction. Several months later we go back for a fire -up after everything's connected and discover the customer installed a mantel (purchased elsewhere) too close to the top of the fireplace and a greater depth than allowed (12" deep instead of 8" deep) This happens to be a 58,000 btu unit and the mantel clearance is supposed = to be 24" above the opening......it was installed (not by us ) 8" above the opening. Obviously the issue here is one of safety, or at least of scorching the mantel, but it was not due to our installation, but the customers (or contractor). For those of you familiar with FPX, it is CLEARLY spelled out in the manual....there can be no misunderstanding if the contractor read the = manual. We let him know and we wrote him a letter telling him it was unsafe to use and to change it to conform to mfr's spec. Any comments? Tony Palmer
