I want to make some money every year and feel good about it. The feeling good about it is the trick. Happy customers that I can sell what they want and make them feel good. What has this got to do with the environment? Not much, but I don't want to look like the bad guy so I try to follow the rules and give my shop the best image possible and pass the clean burning information along. Do I sell the environment when I sell stoves? If that is what the customer wants or needs to hear. I do sell all EPA certified stoves. am I for environmental issues? 100%. But does that mean the government need to tell us what to do, HELL NO. I believe that humans have very little clue as to their impact and the reactions of their actions on the environment. So the less impact any action has the better. Along these lines any action you take you should be responsible to minimize the impact. You can not reverse an impact with out other problems, and this is where government usually has a big problem. I feel that the government creates more impacts then it solves. So yea to the environment and nea to government. John Meeker Jr. P.E. (back) Subject: Re: Environment From: "Louis Tweed" <[email protected]> Date: Mon, 6 Nov 2000 22:01:21 -0500   I am a stove dealer, and an avid camper, dirt bike rider, and outdoorsman. I do not consider myself an environmentalist. I try to reserve the term envrionmentalist to those who are fanatics. I believe there is some middle ground between the Sierra Club and the companies/individuals that trash the land/air/water. There should be a term for those who share my position -- ie. realists or something like that. I don't know GW Bush's thoughts are on the environment, but I do know Gore's. It is one of the large reasons I won't vote for Gore (course he could be lying about those views too.) The interstate highway system, the internet, air traffic safety, coast guard, national forests and countless other entities are the result of the ability for us all chipping in to create things that serve our common interests...otherwise known as government. Sure, it's screwed up in DC, but that's only because business (like ours) now has more of a say than common sense.   The environmental crisis in Texas and Mexico are examples of what happens when just the profit motive rules, with no responsibility for the future...and I'm not blaming Texas on GW since the air was already thick there when he took office.   John, you can't minimize the impact of the majority of the manufacturing process of the products you sell. So, who is responsible? If you don't want government, we get the stuff that happened in the true book and movie "A Civil Action". Although It might be great to go back to the era of cave dwelling when we could simply yell at each other for going to the bathroom in the wrong place, the problems of today are more complex.   I have relatives that were deeply affected and perhaps died from the results of bad prescription drugs that are now illegal. Millions have been affected by DDT, etc.   Sorry for being off-topic, but I would assume that a statement like "So yea to the environment and nea to government." has to have some kind of real world example behind it. Are you saying "YES to Mexico, and NO to the Western European method of dealing with waste?"   By the time you read this, we may have a new pres...Me? I'm voting for Nader - the only one of the candidates that is truthful and has a record to back up his talk.   Again, sorry for of-topic - but it's so close to the election that perhaps I can be forgiven   ------------------------------------------------------ Craig Issod HearthNet at http://www.hearth.com [email protected] Everything your Hearth Desires ------------------------------------------------------   ------------------------------------------------------ --=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D_-1238555221=3D=3D_ma=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D= =3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D Content-Type: text/enriched; charset=3D"us-ascii"   It confounds me that so many folks buy the line about ANYTHING government doing being wrong.
