Subject: Upside-down fires in Prefab Fireplaces

We have had some discussion of "Upside Down Fires" on the Chimney
Professional Forum, and a question came up-- Is it acceptable practice in a
prefab fireplace to remove the grate and build an upside down fire?
 
Since I hear that most of the Manufacturers of those appliances are on this
list, I would really appreciate some feedback from them on this issue.
