(back) Subject: Re: HPA history From: "by way of Craig Issod" <[email protected]> Date: Sun, 29 Oct 2000 20:52:27 -0500 Ben - I started in the business in 1979. I had been working at a hospital = as a pharmacy technician and one of the pharmacists I worked with bought a = Buck Stove franchise and opened his first store. I went to work for him just as the Iranians took Americans hostage as oil prices went sky high. I = realized I didn't like working in an institutional setting, didn't like chemistry and didn't like being around sick people all day. I loved the atmosphere of = the retail store and loved working with the people who were attracted to = working in the woodstove business. I met my future husband a few months later and = got him a job as an installer and sweep. After the American hostages were = freed the store we worked for started on a downward spiral. After they finally closed down we opened our own sweep business and 3 years later our first retail store. I still love the people in the fireplace business and thank = God I don't have to go to work at a hospital and count pills out into little bottles any more. -Karen Duke Duke Chimney Services Victorian Fireplace Shop > We are putting the final touches on the book that commemorates the > 20th anniversary of WHA/HPA (coming to HPA members soon) and need a > little help. (back) Subject: Re: Whitfield Stoves From: "Louis Tweed" <[email protected]> Date: Mon, 30 Oct 2000 11:12:35 -0500 We became a Hearth Trends/Lennox dealer this year after being an = Earthstove dealer for years. That said our experience with Whitfield has been = interesting to say the least. We ordered 2 Profile stoves a while back and got them = in about 5 weeks after the order was placed. The two Profiles we got in both = had problems. The Profile 20 was installed into a customer's house and = started having problems right away. It would shut down intermitantly. After = calling Hearth Trends they sent me the information to fix the Profile 20. It was = a known problem having to do with installing the photo-eye upside down on = it's bracket. Simple fix, no big deal. I thought I should have been notified before I needed to report this problem. The Profile 30 we got in had a wireing harness problem, wires were routed so that when the auger motor torqued it pulled = one wire tight agains the hot exhaust blower housing and caused the = insullation to burn out. Thus creating a short between the auger motor and ground, the = auger motor never shut off. When I called to ask about this problem it seemed = this was also a known problem, but there was no technical bulletin about this problem. Again an easy fix, replace the wiring harness and tie the wires up out of the way. I am not happy about the 100% problem rate I have had with = the Whitfield stoves thus far. I do however have 6 of them on order. I am = still waiting 4 weeks later and being told I will be waiting another 3 1/2 = weeks. I would prefer to see this discussion on the list, others may also.
