Sales can be put into "Pending" until the material is delivered. Printouts of Stock, Committed, Ordered, Available can be done pretty easily for any = item or groups of items. It's also possible to access them on screen. We run it parallel with physical warehouse checks and labeling of product with customer's names when necessary. We have over 4000 inventory items in our list (must do a clean-out soon) Unlimited transactions, reports galore, and we're networked - one master file - three possible terminals can have the same file open at once. Only thing it won't do is tag individual items ordered for a client - we have to do it manually by naming our PO with the customer's name or = another circuitous route. Pat Kerr Sunworks Inc. (back) Subject: Re: Customer Service From: "Jim Hartsen" <[email protected]> Date: Fri, 13 Oct 2000 21:07:33 -0400 I have LURKED long enough on this commodity fireplace and service stuff! Here goes. I think the real problem here is most of you think you are in the = fireplace, stove or hearth business. Some might even think they are in the people business. Wrong! First, if you consider that a business has but one purpose, and that is to create a customer, then it's quite clear what business to be in, and that = is the business of creating and keeping customers. Regardless of what you sell, you don't have a business until a customer = buys something from you. Now comes the harder part, and that is to make a good profit, keep them happy and coming back over and over again. Let's face it, we all sell pretty much the same stuff. The consumer can = buy junk any where they want, especially now with the internet. The question = is where are they going to shop? I say it will be at the business that differentiates itself. Get out of the business you think you're in and = get into the correct business...the business of creating and keeping good customers. You will find that you have the whole thing to yourself. Tim is on the right track with his 100% or 90% guarantee. We have one a = bit different. It's just "Your Satisfaction Guaranteed", no fine print, no labor or materials exceptions, no nothing just satisfaction period. In = the past year I have had to change out one gas fireplace insert for a larger one (partly my fault, I should have known if we put some grease on the larger one it would have fit - it's what they wanted in the first place, = but I talked them out of it). Second, was to change the color of tile on a Hearthstone because they did not like it. Big deal, remember all that = with a hand shake no contract and no fine print. Not bad, we have had 1 to 3 per year over the last "forever" Why punish 99.7% of your customers for .03% of jerks or con artist. I have eaten a = lot more cost from manufactures in field R&D than from my customers = complaints. My grandfather had a great business, with only one guiding principal. He said, "you have to do business with your friends, because your enemies = just won't do business with you!" "So go out and make a lot of friends and = treat them as you would your very best friend, it's amazing how many people will bring you all their business and bring all their friends to do business with you without ever visiting the competition." When a customer complains, my response is just fix it, exchange it, refund it or stand on your head till your ears turn red, WHAT EVER...Just make = them happy beyond their wildest dreams. Ask them what they want, then do it = ONE BETTER. WOW !! It really works. Let's see your HVC guy do that out of his Ford van. OK "Back to LURKING!" Jim Hartsen Williamson Hardware Williamson, NY

We do not have experience with it, but are considering it.
