(back) Subject: HPA - HEARTH Agreement From: "Craig Issod" <[email protected]> Date: Thu, 30 Sep 1999 14:58:52 -0500 HPA 1601 North Kent Street, Suite 1001, Arlington, Virginia 22209 Ph: (703) 522-0086 Fax: (703) 522-0548 email: [email protected] web site: www.hearthassociation.org Contact: September 30, 1999 Susan Kalish 703-522-0086 [email protected] FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Hearth Products Association to Provide Management for Education Foundation Arlington, VAAt its meeting in Baltimore, MD, September 25, the Hearth Products Association (HPA) Board of Directors unanimously approved an Agreement with the HEARTH Education Foundation (HEARTH) to provide management and financial support for HEARTHs operations and programs. The HEARTH Board of Directors had previously voted overwhelmingly to approve the agreement and attendant revision to the HEARTH bylaws. Under the Agreement, HEARTH remains a separate corporate entity with its own identity and programs, however authority for appointing HEARTHs = leaders and overseeing major operational decisions is conveyed to the HPA Board. HPA will provide needed resources to further develop and market HEARTHs education and training programs, and HPAs own educational programs will be offered through HEARTH to assure coordination of all such programs for the industry. HPA Education/Communications Director, Sue Kalish, will serve as Executive Director of HEARTH. Barb Shine, who had been staff executive for HEARTH, will become an employee of HPA and continue to serve HEARTH as Projects Manager from her offices in Batavia, NY. HEARTHs Program Director, Ben Weathersby, also will become an HPA employee and continue to develop educational programs and materials. Administrative support for HEARTHs activities will be supplied by HPA from its offices in Arlington, VA, = which will become the headquarters for the organization. HEARTH President, Chuck Brewster (Accent Sales & Marketing, Carver, MA) enthusiastically endorsed the agreement saying, The time is right to move all of the educational activities of the hearth industry under one roof. The sum will certainly be greater than the two parts. Mr. Brewster went = on to note that as a former President of the Northeast HPA affiliate he is keenly aware of the need for the association to develop additional educational opportunities for delivery regionally. He offered that The new HEARTH will ensure affiliates play a key role in identifying and bring EXPO quality training and seminars to the regional level to complement the traditional HEARTH Technical training. Under the Agreement, HPAs Education Committee will be merged with a new Board of Governors for HEARTH. HPA Education Committee Chairman, John Patricia (Ace Hardware & Nursery of Payson, AZ), played a vital role in negotiating the Agreement. The HEARTH Foundation long has played a major part in bringing technical education services to the industry, said Patricia. With this Agreement, the Foundation will have the resources it needs to develop new programs and deliver them to more and more companies. HPA explored a number of alternative approaches for the development of education programs for its members and it was clear that a new = relationship with the HEARTH Foundation would be the best way to proceed, said Board Chairman, Bert Bromwell (Bromwells Inc., Falls Church, VA). HEARTH has an established brand identity recognized with education and certification for the industry. The new agreement will take effect January 1, 2000. All HPA Hearth & Home EXPO Education seminars henceforth will be delivered as HEARTH Education Foundation seminars and courses. This is a momentous event, uniting HPA education programs together with = the HEARTH Education Foundation, said Mr. Bromwell. Now, we can better focus our energies and resources on delivering a strong education program for = the common good of the hearth industry and the public. (back) Subject: electric logs From: "tony" <[email protected]> Date: Thu, 30 Sep 1999 17:07:40 -0500 It amazes me how well we do selling electric logs! There is a group of people, usually the older ones, that completely reject any kind of fire in their house! no matter what argument you can make to support it. You aren't giving these folks a gas log for FREE! They don't want it. And forget about burning wood. Not in their house. So, if you can't lick'em, join'em....sell electric logs. The standard Rustic Craft with the orange light bulb (!) does the best, but we sell a lot of the HeatNGlow self contained units as well. Haven't done much with Burley, but they look pretty good.
