I received email today from a guy who bought a gas log set over the internet
to hook up to LP.  He apparently is not having a problem with it but someone
told him the set should not have sand in it, but something more like
vermiculite.  That is also my experience.  I suggested he contact the place
where he bought the set and make sure he got the correct components.  I also
suggested he contact the manufacturer, Formation Creation, to verify that he
has the right stuff.
 
His reply follows.
 
(We have talked about internet sales here in the past with the main concern
being support.  Here is an example of how it shouldn't be done.)
