(back) Subject: SEHPA Meeting, etc. From: Craig Issod <[email protected]> Date: Fri, 10 Jul 1998 16:47:03 -0500   I hope to see some of you at the SEHPA meeting in Nashville. Martha and I will be attending and I'll be giving a computer session on Monday, July 13. We'll hopefully be at the reception on Sunday eve with name tags on...stop and say hi.   We spent a short time in Vermont over the holiday and had the honor of attending the dedication of the Vermont Castings Gazebo in Randolph. When I have a chance, I'll put some pictures and descriptions on HearthNet.   This dedication was put together by the friends and family of Murray Howell and Duncan Syme and some of the personalities that were part of the Vermont Castings experience. Although we (Martha and I) were not "insiders" to the original Vermont Castings experience, it still was nice to see folks remember history and their roots.   The celebration included a Vermont Castings Museum which had artifacts and thousands of photos from the old days. Hopefully, these archives will be preserved and cataloged in some way. The Vermont Castings Story, which has not yet been fully told, is an excellent example of the hardworking spirit which made American strong. Starting as a dream, it evolved into a company that became a legend in it's own time and influenced hundreds of thousands of customers and hundreds of businesses.   Even large corporations like General Motors (Saturn) copied Vermont Castings legendary customer service...like the owners outings.   Alas, it seems as if the final chapter in Vermont Castings history may have been written once it was out of the hands of stove lovers..but, you never know. Maybe someday it will be available at a fire sale price again and an old stove hand will get another chance.     ------------------------------------------------------ Craig Issod HearthNet at http://www.hearth.com [email protected] Everything your Hearth Desires ------------------------------------------------------ Buddha says "avoid error" ------------------------------------------------------
