Hearthlist Digest #278 - Sunday, March 21, 1999 Damper Stop by "Craig Issod" <[email protected]>
(back) Subject: Damper Stop From: Craig Issod <[email protected]> Date: Sun, 21 Mar 1999 14:21:41 -0400 OK, Wise ones.... I received this question: >WHAT ARE REQUIREMENTS FOR A DAMPER STOP IN A FIREPLACE? I assume you are talking about a stop for use with vented gas logs. All vented sets come with a small clamp to allow the damper to stay open a small amount. I've never been certain exactly what this was for 1. To vent the pilot? 2. To allow for safety of venting if someone turned the set on when the damper was not opened. I suspect #2 is the strongest point but will try to find out more. ------------------------------------------------------------ So, experts in gas land? What is the real reason for the damper clamp? Thanks. ------------------------------------------------------ Craig Issod HearthNet at http://www.hearth.com [email protected] Everything your Hearth Desires ------------------------------------------------------ ------------------------------------------------------
