(back) Subject: Feeling Good About Wood in St. Louis From: "John Gulland" <[email protected]> Date: Thu, 12 Mar 1998 16:59:52 -0400 A group of us volunteers have put together a very slick poster and brochure that pitch the merits of woodburning. A media kit and user's guide will round out the program when it is completed. Ray Bonar and the other folks at the Industrial Chimney Company stepped in with some funding support to get the project off the ground and also supplied a few inspired ideas; Bill Tully of Tri-Lane Distributing is volunteering as the banker, bookkeeper and general distributor of the program materials; I have been happy to do the grunt work for the project and have been assisted by many people who provided reviews, comments and strategic advice. We are running the financial side of the project through the wood-heat.com bank account since it was already in place and this work is a continuation of the efforts started there two years ago. The key to the success of the Feel Good project is for the friends of wood heat to get this information out to as many hearth buyers and media outlets as possible. We have done our best to make this easy by creating materials that are just beautiful to look at and carry a compelling message. If you like to build, sell, install or service woodburning systems and you'd like to do more, this project is for you. In fact, think of the project as yours - take it and run with it. We'll have lots of samples of the poster and brochure at the show and we are intent on ensuring that everyone attending the Expo gets to see them and finds out how to order some. The program materials are being priced to recover only the printing and shipping expenses. If the demand is strong, a bigger print run next time will let us drop the price further. Preliminary pricing is as follows: Brochures in lots of 2500 - $500. Posters in lots of 10 - $50. We'll have order forms available at the show. The idea is for manufacturers and distributors to buy them and sell/co-op them to their dealers. GET ALL THE DETAILS **** Saturday 8:00 to 10:00 AM "Selling Woodburning Appliances into the Year 2000" is an HPA educational session. Its moderator and panelists have agreed to give us a few minutes of the session to introduce the project and its materials and let retailers and others know how they can get involved. Those who attend will get a copy of the brochure and a chance to check out the poster. The HPA Board of Directors and management do not have evidence that woodburning has enough support within the membership to justify its getting behind projects like this. It has certainly heard from supporters of gas hearths, vent free hearths and pellet heaters. Carter Keithley (HPA CEO) will be a panelist at the Saturday morning session on Selling Woodburning into the Year 2000, and if he doesn't see you there, he might get the idea that you don't care about woodburning. (We know that exhibitors are not likely to attend, but you might mention it to some dealers) If you can arrange your Expo schedule to join us from 8:00 to 10:00 Saturday morning, you'll not only pick up some good ideas and advance info about the Feel Good project, but your presence will send the signal that you haven't given up on wood as a hearth fuel. See you in St. Louis. Regards, John This is for business: http://www.gulland.ca This is for pleasure: http://www.wood-heat.com
