(back) Subject: decorative shrouds atop chase From: "Noel Gilmore" <[email protected]> Date: Thu, 30 Mar 2000 09:41:58 -0500 I'm curious to know what your experiences are with these items which architects are always designing. No building inspector in any of the too many building depts. with which we must deal has the slightest idea that these shrouds are, strictly speaking, verboten (but then we once had a bldg inspector who passed a parquet hearth and even commented on how lovely was the workmanship!), and lately there's been a plethora of roofed WOODEN structures showing up ("But we're gonna cover it with stucco, so it's okay!"), and the builders don't want to hear that this is incorrect. So do you make them? Install them? Tell them to get someone else to do it? Go the way of Chimney King and use UL listed ones if you are selling the brands for which he's obtained approval? Worry that you'll get sued someday? Noel Gilmore Autumn Moon Fireplaces
