(back) Subject: Gas Logs From: JLOCHARY <[email protected]> Date: Thu, 8 Jan 1998 21:14:27 -0400 Hocking Valley Stoves and Fireplaces reporting in! As far as the Vent Free units are concerned, propane and natural, several of the manufacturers have welded the air shutters on these units so that there is no margin for adjustment. The Vent Free units should be factory set and not touched unless there is a problem. .. On the vented units, both natural and LP, several of the manufacturers have a special air mix valve that can be used in case you feel your not getting enough heat, soot or height on the flame. However--Warning! If an air mix valve is installed you should only use vermiculite in the burner pan. You should not use sand or you will get a lovely fire at the air mix valve site. This is always exciting especially if the customer is watching. I am finding that most of the gas stoves going out my door are Vent Free since the customer does not want the trouble and slight expense for the B-Vent pipe and Direct Vent (at this time) is too expensive. Vent Free is not bad. It just depends upon where it will be placed in the home. NO! Not in a bedroom. The only appliance that I will allow in the bedroom is the Direct Vent. I also always ask if anyone in the family has allergies or is sensitive to odor. Of course, that doesn't mean the customer can go elsewhere an install one anyway. At least, I have warned them. I think that is important.
(back) Subject: Vent free and Customers From: "JOHN BAILEY" <[email protected]> Date: Thu, 8 Jan 1998 22:07:27 -0400 I am from ontario , vent free products are not allowed here, even if they were I would not sell them, who ever heard of a customer that reads instructions or follows them, these fire places may be safe but customers are not, people who want heat will even run there B,Q indoors. Have you read the story about increased risk of breathing problems with gas kitchen stoves, more so with women, people will not use there exhaust hoods,or someone sold or told them recurc was ok
