But it is just as well, because a ceiling is easier to replace than the woodwork around all the windows in a sun room. Skip Jackson Fireside Engineering Cincinnati Ohio
(back) Subject: Flexible DV flu From: <[email protected]> Date: Thu, 20 Jan 2000 10:31:00 -0500   RE: ........Does anybody have much real experience with the flexible flues offered by companies such as Lennox>>>>>>>....Our installers claim that they do not care for it because they have heard>>>>>.....   Jeff, We had the same feelings among our crews when we first had the opportunity to become a Lennox dealer. We "had heard" too ..... We have been duravent distributors for several years and our main fireplaces were FMI >> which also uses the duravent chimney in a 4/7 configuration..... so the apprehension was high. and the fear from both our installers and sales staff about continuos flex was that it would be a bad situation.... Hard to work with, hard to make a secure connection.... and what about a sag in the vent??? It went so far as to consider not offering the Lennox flex vent and to only offer their cut and paste rigid option >>(we used to do the cut and paste CFM vent #$@*%& system) But because we liked what we saw when we visited the Lennox plant and we were impressed with their professional approach to installation ........ we tried a few. It was a snap once we figured out what we needed to stock. The flex is expandable in length and can go around that stud or floor joist without "over-offsetting" or having to "cut and box". Now our installers appreciate the ease of the install and we have figured out the quirks and time savers. (Make sure you use the Lennox pipe pack it eliminates the silicone mess and gives you a good seal) They still prefer duravent to the old cut and paste systems still out there but I don't think they have a preference over installing the flex system or a duravent system anymore.
