I just had a Regency 3100 wood insert installed into a masonry fireplace. The fireplace brick is uneven and the faceplate trim of the insert wasn't able to go flush against, which is a common happening with them. The insulation strips weren't installed behind the trim plates because they would be easily seen and look unfinished worse than it is. What the installer did was wrap insert firebox on the top and bottom with insulation.
I did have him install a blockplate as well with insulation above it. The chimney cap has insulation underneath it and the SS liner is triple walled with 1" thick insulation.
That's my setup. My question is this: Is it Ok to wrap insulation around the sides and top of the firebox? I see some vent holes in the left corner (facing the insert) of the firebox and the insulation does obstruct part of this. I don't know what the holes are for or if there are many other like openings. I didn't get to see the firebox before it was installed.

This is a question best asked of Regency. There will be intake holes for combustion air that should not be blocked.

SS liner is triple walled with 1" thick insulation.
What type of liner are you referring to triple wall is not a liner and does not have 1" insulation and actually i have never heard of 1" insulation on a liner. Just confused

Ok so that would typically be double wall with 1/2" insulation between the layers. But regardless don't pack the firebox full of insulation that is not what any instructions call for
