I am getting ready to purchase my first pellet stove. I have been told to look into amfm energy and the website looks good. What's everyone's thoughts on amfm refurbished units? Just looking for some peoples perspective on this company. Do you contact the manufactures if there's a problem or amfm? Has anyone had a stove shipped to there house? Is it a tractor trailer or cube truck? Do the shipping comp. call you to set up a appt. For delivery?
Sorry for all the questions, I just wanted to make sure of a few things before I purchase. Thanks again for he help.

We purchased our 25-PDVC from AMFM and can't complain about the service or communication. As far as I know all of the refurbs come with a 1 year manufacturer warranty so you would contact Englander if there is a problem. We ended up using the warranty twice as both blowers started to get extremely noisy.

We had the unit shipped to our house and the shipping company called us to setup a day.

I had a very good experience with AMFM. Stove was delivered to my house on a pallet in a box truck. Trucking company called me directly to arrange delivery. Driver put it right inside my garage. Had two minor issues both handled under warranty directly through the manufacturer with great customer service. For the money I saved I would do it again.

This is a copy and paste from stoveguy2esw, a rep from Englander.
"..........as for the Ep units , the biggest reason they have come back to us is due to people not willing to maintain them, letting them get plugged up and just returning them to the "big box" which has a very liberal return policy (I refer to it as the "no questions asked screw your vendor policy") see once the store takes it back we have literally no choice but to eat it.

anyway , once they come back , myself and some of my technicians will go through them , tear them down super clean them replace anything that's suspect, reassemble then test fire the units , if they perform as they should then we clean them out again and repaint reassemble and crate for sale as refurbished units.

as far as being pretty good, the ones which don't do as they should or we find a defect which isn't repairable or not worthwhile to repair for a refurb we strip it and scrap it. the refurbished units have actually had an even lower failure rate than the first run units do (which is very low to start with other than the abuse part I spoke of above) I think its because the stoves when refurbed are done by one tech all the way through rather than an 'assembly line" type process.

the other type andy sells at amfm are what we call "blue dots" (we mark the box for these units with a sticker which is a round blue "dot") . these are units which have a blemish such as a deep scratch or maybe a crooked door or something equally minor performance wise but still not something we would sell to our big accounts............................."

I bought a 25EP last week, it was delivered and dropped off to my house with a box truck from Estes express. They called and set up a 5 hour window for an appointment. As far as I can tell, AMFM and England Stove works are the same company or they work very closely together.

Im very happy with this purchase as of now.

Thank you very much guys, I just ordered a refurb 55-trpah and a chimney kit.($1300 total) I opted for the lift gate delivery. Do you have to open the stove right then to make sure theres no shipping damage? If there was what should you do? Im just thinking worst case senerio

It's been a while but if I remember correctly, you should look it over for any damage that may have occurred during shipping. Minor scratches can be taken care of with touch up paint, but if there's any real damage you should decline the delivery and contact AMFM immediately. That being said, mine looked like a brand new stove when I got it. No issues.

I just took delivery on a trp22 yesterday....I bought a blemished one vs a refurb end unit....minor scratches....did the dry run inspection tonight, just waiting on the vent pipe to hook it up....very happy so far!

Got the TRPAH last year from Andy @ AmFm Energy. Delivered to door, checked it over, then installed to my existing pipe. It took about 1/2 hr. Love the stove & Englander customer service. I emailed Mike @ Englander and gave him my stove serial #. He called me back & told me what they did to stove. Turns out a couple in NY didn't know that they ever needed to clean it

Thank you. What did you do for the"dry run". I'm wondering what I should do before I put pellets in it and start to burn.

with a refurbished unit , do your dry run either after you connect the exhaust or outdoors as even though these units have been deep cleaned sometimes there may a bit of residual ash that could exhaust from the combustion blower or possibly a few pellets left in the auger which may try to light off during the dry run.

as for delivery , you would want to check out the stove when it gets there for obvious signs of freight damamge and contact andy as well as ask the driver to denote the damage on the Bill of Lading that you get with the stove , in the case of concealed damage we can still deal with that if its not noted on the BOL but its easier for all concerned if the unit is at least looked over at the time of delivery

Hey Buck,

Got to YouTube and search...
AutoStart 01 Unpacking & Dry Run

Mike isn't demonstrating your particular model but I would imagine it's got to be similar..or try searching for your model #.......your stove will come with a DVD, at least mine did and manuals are available on ESW website too

Good luck and congrats on your purchase!

Bob
