Likes: Really cranks out the heat for such a small firebox. Heated the entire house. Back rooms were about 6 - 8 degrees cooler than room with stove. Previously had a Country Flame Ovation Insert with a much larger firebox in another house, but this little Hearth Heater seemed to put out more heat in a larger house. Since this stove sits on the hearth with it's back to the fireplace, clearance issues are very minimal. We had a very small fireplace and the H2100 was about the only stove that would fit. It's a very nice looking stove. Glass stays fairly clean and it drafts very easily for us.
Dislikes: Pretty small firebox (1.6 c.f.). Combustion air inlet would whistle early in the burn or until the air control was adjusted. Could use some graduation marks on the air control. Due to small firebox we would have active flames for 2-3 hours on moderate to low setting, then coals. Sometimes was a bit hard to light until we discovered a good technique. Fan on high was loud, but on low it was fine and seemed to do a very good job.
Comments: They say this stove will only take 18" logs (longways -side to side), but it will actually take up to about 21". Fire box is not very tall which limits a load to about 3-5 sticks. Hard to be able to stack much wood in there because its firebox is not very tall. However, it is a very efficient little stove - you burn a lot less wood because it is so small. If you have a fireplace that's too small for most inserts and you only need to heat up to a 600 sf room, or a 1600 sf house, for 4-6 hours at a time before reloading, then the Hearth Heater is an excellent choice. We liked this stove a lot for the situation for the fireplace and size of house we had.
