Likes: Attractive high-quality stove, excellent draft, efficient use of wood. Close clearances to combustibles with heat shield.
Dislikes: Family tends to congregate around stove, keeping us from productive activities.
Comments: Found this stove used on Craigslist -- the previous owner converted to a gas-burning Jotul stove. It took me more than a year to get around to installing it. Didn't have faith in the installers that visited so I did the install myself. Got lots of advice online, Jotul tech support, my building inspector, and the Selkirk site. Got most Metalbestos parts from acehardwareoutlet.com. Chimney is straight up and has 14' above the roof (we had some nearby eaves to clear). Used two RBK brace kits, with the higher one using a conduit pipe for the extended length. The inspector certified the install the day AFTER power was restored following a 6.5 day outage due to an ice storm. The first burn was a marvel. The stove's single air-control lever is great. I use an infrared thermometer to monitor surface temp to 500 degress and then reduce the air supply to cutover to secondary burn. Stove gives a lot of heat with just a few logs. This is my first stove and I am absolutely in love with it. I know that I will be a woodburner forever. Oh -- I have a 2-door Castine and think the design is great. I can't imagine having a full-width door as on the newer models.
