Likes: To begin, it doesn't get that cold in Central Texas. This unit will heat the downstairs (2700 sf) to about 72 degrees when it is fired up. It is a new home and this unit was installed as it was built. It is a very open floorplan in the main living area with 10 ft ceilings.
I have been very pleased with it overall. It is a money saver with the price of propane! In this area, a cord of wood will easily last all year and more likely two years.
It does go thru the wood.
Dislikes: Same problem as everyone with the glass blackening. I suspect that is just a fact of life with any unit. Also, the literature speaks of a 12-hour overnight burn. That may be possible, but the best I have been able to achieve and keep the blower going is about 6 hours. I may not be packing enough wood in it. Anyway overall very pleased.
Comments: Also, for the people up north in the "cold areas", I ran my air intake for the blower from my attic. I am taking air from my attic to the unit blower. Attic is certainly warmer than the exterior air and this might enable you to get the "posi-pressure" they advertise. Works fine so far.
