Likes: Efficient, produces little ash which can be cleaned out 1X/day or less, good view of the fire through glass which stays clean if burning hot, starts up easily, no trouble getting it to draw even when the cabin is cold. Stone sides look nice and stay warm. The insulated back means we don't worry much if things get close behind the stove (not touching), such as a box of slippers. Also, it heats the sitting area first, then the rest of the cabin behind the stove, so the kitchen area doesn't get overheated.


Dislikes: The handle has to be carefully inserted each time we open the door (if you remove the spring and leave it in place it gets really hot), and I worry that it will get stripped. The glass cracked recently (after 3.5 yrs) and will need replacement, though this looks simple. Requires 15" wood, so we had to cut down our 18" wood to fit.


Comments: We had concerns that this Danish stove might not be able to heat an Alaskan cabin, but we have had no troubles. From arrival, we can heat the place 10F per hour (it's well insulated), and within a day must quit stoking it, or we overheat. When we installed it we set it up on a platform about 16" off the ground and 4ft across, which has worked very well to keep people from running into it, stooping over less to load, better view, put your feet up close to the fire. . . .
